DRX’s Miracle Underdog Run in LCK
This run DRX has conducted is nothing but spectacular. Before this Worlds run, lets talk about the LCK run they went through to even qualify. After being eliminated by Liiv Sandbox in the main playoffs, DRX fell out of their playoff run and had to wait for the regional finals. At this time, the team’s future looked dim. DRX was still working internally on whether to start Pyosik or Juhan, because of the team’s recent turmoil. On the positive side, Zeka, DRX’s mid-laner looked strong and ready to dominate the competition.
The first match in the regional finals was against KT Rolster, who was hungry for a win with the new mid-laner VicLa. KT Rolster were favorites to win as many expected this to be an easy win. However, this would be false as DRX shocked LCK fans upsetting and ending KT’s chances of Worlds. After this match, they would have to play against Liiv Sandbox’s roster which caught heat towards the end of the regular season. LSB Prince, who was a rookie was put into the spotlight with his tremendous Sivir impact plays. Again, DRX shocked fans with an upset that would clinch their way to Worlds 2022.
Reverse Sweeping EDG
After playing in the play-ins and group stage, they found their way into the playoffs, with their first opponent being LPL’s fourth seed, Edward Gaming. The previous world’s winners showed up, putting up two wins back to back in a best-of-5. This was expected as DRX were considered underdogs throughout the League community. If you didn’t watch game two, go back and watch it, I guarantee you will not be disappointed. Essentially, DRX was supposed to win but an unfortunate inhibitor respawns canceled Deft’s auto which would have won them the game. On top of this, if Deft activated his Sheen, DRX would have also won.
Finding themselves down 2-0, DRX had to pull off three consecutive wins, which seemed nearly impossible. Again, DRX proved their doubters wrong as they pulled off THREE consecutive wins against the former Worlds winners.
After completing the reverse sweep they found themselves against Chovy’s led Gen.G, which again… seemed like a near-impossible task.
Chovy’s Gen.G face DRX
Despite all their upsets, surely they were not going to win against the #1 LCK seed Gen.G, right? Gen.G took the first map as they looked to secure their way into the finals against #2 LCK seed T1. Gen.G’s RULER looked impossible to kill as he put up a 5 KILL – 0 DEATH – 3 ASSISTS stat line. As a fan, it looked certain Gen.G was going to win after the first game, I mean the kills were 12-2 in favor of Gen.G. But like previously they shocked fans as they upset Gen.G, winning THREE straight, shocking the entire world.
Where are we now?
Now once again, according to the general consensus and betting lines, T1 is favored to take home the League of Legends Worlds 2022 trophy. T1’s legendary Faker vs DRX’s prodigy Zeka and veteran ADC Deft will be a great game to watch for sure. Can DRX prove the haters wrong and complete this miracle run or will T1 put a stop to it, as Faker secures ANOTHER worlds trophy?
